How was PGL Major Antwerp 2022: APAC RMR?
The matches of the CS major were held in Bucharest, the audience saw a lot of dramatic moments. At the 2022 tournament, Valve used the updated format for the first time. The organizer refused to take into account RMR points when determining the chances of players reaching the finals of the international championship. Now the teams have only one chance to qualify for the major, and qualifying tournaments are held in three regions: Europe and the CIS, North and South America, Asia and Oceania.
Only teams that had previously been able to advance to the TOP 16 of the previous major were able to participate in RMR, the rest must first pass the qualifying matches. The format depends on the quotas for the major. A group of four teams participated in APAC RMR, the games were held according to the GSL system in the "best of three" format.
The prize fund of the CS major at the regional level was $ 10,000. It is distributed as follows: the winning team received $5,000, the second-place team received $2,500, the third – $1,500, and the fourth – $1,000. The qualifying round of the Asia-Pacific region ended as follows:
- · The first place to get a slot for the major finals was won by the Mongolian IHC team. She beat Renegades in two matches with a score of 16:10 at Inferno and 16:4 at Mirage, which guaranteed her first place and entry to the major. The winner from Mongolia received a slot in the Challengers Stage and a cash prize of $ 5,000.
- · The second place was taken by the Australian Renegades team. First, she beat the Looking For Org team with a score of 2:0, and after the IHC loss, she managed to take another chance and beat TYLOO. The score was 16:5 on Inferno and 22:20 on Vertigo.
- · The third place was taken by the Chinese team TYLOO, which lost to Renegades, but managed to beat the Australians Looking For Org with a score of 2:0. TYLOO failed to enter the major for the first time since 2017, which was an unpleasant surprise for fans.
- · The fourth place was taken by the Looking For Org team, which failed to defeat any of the rivals. As a result, she lost the right to enter the major and received a minimum cash prize.
